The first online feis in Ireland!
When the International Work Group (IWG) came up with the idea of an online feis and CLRG invited regions to run a trial feis in their area the Leinster Council decided to give it a go. The Leinster Region has been in lock down for many months with no in person feis, classes or dancing activities taking place. So the council felt that this was something that might help to support dancers and teachers in the regions.
We had a huge response. Feiseanna in the our region can be quite small in general and we were amazed with the number of entries which we received.
We had almost 2,000 videos, 65% being from graded dancers and 35% prelim and championship dancers.
We employed 7 adjudicators who all did a fantastic job
Dearbhla Lennon – Ireland
Helan Greene – Ireland
Kathleen Mc Laughlin Giroux – Scotland
Kelly Hendry – England
Mary Sweeney – Germany
Deirdre Penk O’Donnell – Canada
Conor Hayes – Australia
Awards and results
Every competitor from the trial Leinster Online Feis will receive a custom made sash or pennant with badges for their sashes for placements in each dance, a certificate of participation and comments as well as placements for each dance entered. Olive Hurley has also sponsored and donated DVD’s and CD’s for the winners of prelim and open championship events.
Thank you Olive!
The feedback we received was extremely positive from teachers, parents and dancers. All teachers and dancers were delighted with the results and in particular with the positive and encouraging comments from the adjudicators. Teachers reported a renewed focus and a new sense of motivation in their schools. Teachers and dancers are asking when the next one will be if there are no in person feiseanna on the horizon. Whilst online feiseanna will never replace the buzz and excitement of an in person feis, in the interim it gives dancers a great focus and reachable short term goals. Thanks to the IWG and CLRG for developing and accommodating the idea and for bringing some excitement and joy to our teachers and dancers during this difficult time.
